Como deve dormir um recém-nascido?

How should a newborn sleep?

💤 How a Newborn Should Sleep.

Newborn sleep is one of the biggest challenges in the first months — but it is also essential for their development and safety.

More than comfort, the focus should be on safety and practicality for parents.
Here are simple and safe tips to ensure peaceful sleep 👇

🛏️ 1. Crib Next to the Mother's Bed

Having a crib that attaches to the bed (sidecar style) makes all the difference.

It prevents the mother from having to get up multiple times during the night, which is especially important postpartum. Additionally:

Makes breastfeeding easier

Allows easy monitoring of the baby

Helps maintain a calmer routine.

⚠️ Attention: the baby must have their own firm and safe space.

🧼 2. A New Mattress Is Essential

If the crib is borrowed or reused, the mattress should always be new and certified.

This is because:

It can accumulate dust mites and bacteria

It may no longer have the proper firmness

The baby’s safety depends greatly on the quality of the mattress

✔️ Choose mattresses that meet safety standards.

🚫 3. Nothing in the Crib Except the Essentials

Less is more — and safer.

In the crib, there should only be:

A firm mattress

A well-fitted fitted sheet

Avoid:

Pillows

Stuffed animals

Crib bumpers

Loose waterproof covers

👉 All of these increase the risk of suffocation.

👶 4. How to Dress the Baby for Sleep
The ideal is to use a sleep sack (like the “Angel’s Nest”) in the early days.

Why?
Easier to use with newborns.

Avoids difficulty putting arms into traditional sacks
More comfortable and natural.

See our Birth and Sleep Sacks here.

💡 Traditional sleep sacks can be:
Hard to adjust at first
Too stiff or bulky
(👉 they really look like little “astronauts” 😄)

📏 5. Correct Position in the Crib
The baby should sleep with:
Feet touching the bottom of the crib
This prevents sliding down inside the sack.
✔️ If the sack is large:
Fold the bottom part to adjust to the baby’s size
✔️ The top part (hood):
Should always be open.

🧠 Extra tip (very useful!)
Place a thin cloth diaper as a pillowcase.
Advantages:
Protects the spot where the baby rests their head
Reduces how often you need to wash the sack
More practical for everyday use.
