Important to know:
Care:
The pacifier holder or clip attached to the baby's clothing is designed to prevent the pacifier from falling on the floor all the time. However, despite being very practical, the holder requires a lot of care when purchasing.
There are many safety criteria, but I will focus on three points that I believe are the most important:
Material:
Although there are not many regulations, I prefer fabric ribbons, preferably cotton, that can be washed frequently. Other materials like rings carry many risks: they are not hygienic, can come loose, may contain toxic substances in the dyes used, etc.
Size:
According to European safety regulations, the holder must be no longer than 22 cm in length, excluding the clip, ensuring a safe size that prevents the risk of suffocation in case it wraps around the neck.
Weight:
The pacifier holder should be light. Heavy ones can cause serious problems in the future.
“Large and heavy pacifier holders should be avoided due to the risk of causing orofacial changes in the baby. A heavy holder will exert opposite pressure on the developing jaw of the baby, which can consequently result in an open bite, mouth breathing, changes in orofacial muscles, and later on, speech articulation issues, including omission, substitution, and/or distortion of speech sounds.” – Sofia Silva (speech therapist for 14 years).
